I wrote this a few years ago, and it still speaks truth today. May it encourage you as you move boldly in pursuit of all God has placed in your heart.
Chasing your dream is a lot like driving a car. There is motion. There is direction. There are unexpected turns, breakdowns, and moments when you wonder if it was all a mistake. But with the right preparation and guidance, you will get there. This journey is not just about the destination, it is about how you arrive and who you become along the way.
Before you take a single step or turn the ignition—pray. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust Him with the road ahead (Proverbs 3:5–6).
- REFUEL YOUR VISION
You cannot drive on empty, and neither can your dream. Surround yourself with what inspires you. Create a clear mental and visual picture of what God has placed in your heart. Write the vision down and make it plain, as instructed in Habakkuk 2:2. Keep reminders close. Read testimonies. Speak to others who have walked the path. Let your faith be fueled by daily doses of inspiration.
- CHANGE THE TYRES
There are seasons when what drives you needs to change. You may begin motivated by fear or urgency, but true longevity comes when you are driven by purpose and calling. Sometimes, it is not your dream that needs changing, it is you. Let go of laziness, comparison, and the habit of procrastination. These are not travel companions. They are delays in disguise.
- SERVICE THE VEHICLE
Every driver knows that even the best car needs servicing. Keep learning. Keep growing. Seek wisdom. Proverbs 4:7 reminds us that wisdom is the principal thing, and with all our getting, we should get understanding. Read books. Take courses. Learn from mentors. Sharpen your gifts. Stay teachable and up to date. The more you invest in your calling, the more capable you become.
- USE A SATNAV
Direction matters. Have a route. Set goals. Research how others have reached similar destinations. God can give you divine strategies, but He also expects stewardship. Do not guess your way forward when wise counsel is available. Proverbs 11:14 tells us that victory is found in a multitude of counsellors. Be open to guidance.
- KEEP YOUR WINDSCREEN CLEAN
Your vision must stay clear. Compromise clouds it. Shortcuts damage it. Do not outsmart people, borrow dishonestly, or chase success at the expense of integrity. Psalm 24:4 speaks of those with
clean hands and pure hearts standing before God. Honesty is not just moral. It is strategic. Stay transparent and honourable.
- RECHARGE YOUR ENGINE – PROTECT THE VISION
Sometimes the car is fine, but the engine overheats. The same can happen with your vision. Take intentional pauses to evaluate and refocus. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any drift. Is this still what God asked you to do? Or has it become about competition or validation? True rest includes listening. In moments of reflection, you may discover a better route or hear God’s gentle correction.
- KNOW YOUR SPEED LIMIT
Not every season is for acceleration. There are times God will call you to go slow and steady. Other times He will ask for urgency. Learn to read the signs. Discern the season. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that there is a time for everything. Do not rush what God is still building. Speed without direction is wasted energy.
- REST THE DRIVER – PROTECT YOURSELF
Your dream is valuable, but you are even more so. If you break down, everything stops. Take care of your body. Guard your mental health. Protect your spiritual life. Burnout is not noble. It is harmful. Remember when Elijah, after performing mighty miracles, was still overwhelmed and afraid? God’s solution was not a pep talk. It was rest, food, and quiet time (1 Kings 19). You matter to God. Do not neglect yourself.
- AVOID INTOXICATION – DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE
Some relationships cloud judgement. Some habits fog your mind. Not everyone can travel with you. Be careful who has access to your journey. Emotional and spiritual intoxication happens when we allow distractions to blur the clarity of what God told us. Be mindful of your company and remove what causes confusion or loss of focus.
- KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD
Distractions will come. Opportunities will try to lure you away from purpose. But Philippians 3:14 says we press toward the mark. Keep your eyes on where you are going. Stay present in the journey. And when you feel tired or discouraged, lift your eyes to the hills. Your help comes from the Lord.

Let this be the season you dust off your dream, start the engine, and move forward with purpose. God is your ultimate GPS. Even if you take a wrong turn, He knows how to reroute you.
If this encouraged you, share it with someone else. There is always room in the car for fellow dreamers.
With love,
Amanda
