I once heard someone say they needed to forgive God. They had prayed for healing, but the sickness ended in death. They had believed for a miracle, but the miracle never came. They had dreams for their life, but the years unfolded in ways they never imagined.

I understood the pain in their voice, because I’ve been there too. When you are standing in the middle of grief, disappointment, or heartbreak, it is easy to wonder if God has let you down.

But here is what I have learned, you cannot forgive God!

Forgiveness is for those who have done wrong, and “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he” (Deuteronomy 32:4).

God has never wronged you. He is perfect in all His ways.

He is righteous in all His decisions. He is holy in all that He does.

You cannot forgive God, but you can learn to trust Him.

You can trust that “ His ways are higher than your ways and His thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9), even when they make no sense.

You can trust that “He works all things together for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28), even when life feels anything but good.

You can trust that “His compassions never fail… they are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22–23), even when your heart feels broken beyond repair.

So instead of trying to forgive God, bring Him your questions. Bring Him your tears. Bring Him your pain.

The psalmist reminds us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). Learn to grieve with Him instead of away from Him.

Stay close to His Word, for “the unfolding of His words gives light” (Psalm 119:130).

Pray even when the words are raw, because “ He hears the prayer of the righteous ” (Proverbs 15:29).

Anchor your hope not in this temporary life, but in the eternal one to come, where “He will wipe every tear from their eyes… and death shall be no more” (Revelation 21:4).

The truth is, God has not failed you and one day, you will see that He was holding you even in the moments you thought He had left.

With love,

Amanda
